Tying The Knot In Jamaica: Wedding Song

Down the aisle she walked, to the story of their love.  The song retold the story of how love got them here.  Every line, ever word, every verse was true.  A unique song to reflect their beautiful love story.

Born Kerri-Anne Walker, Kei Dubb grew up in the Caribbean. There she learned the French language and went on to live and study in France for a while before returning to the Caribbean.  Her voice range is 3 1/2 octaves and her singing style is a unique fusion of jazz, soul and reggae. There are singers and then there is Kei Dubb. Kei Dubb, known not only for her beautiful voice, Kei is a vibrant yet relaxed personality - a pint-sized vocal powerhouse who has wowed audiences both in the old world and the new. Her abilities are quite impressive as she is not simply a singer but a songwriter as well. Her bilingual ability lends itself wonderfully to her writing and performances which go back and forth between English and French.  As a talented songwriter, Kei has an ability to speak directly to couples and write love songs that tell their special story as lovers. Working with Kei Dubb on your own love story will make walking down the aisle, the entrance to the reception and that first dance as a married couple much more personal, intimate and special.

We had a very entertaining email interview with Kerri to get to know a bit more about the woman behind the music.  It was truly a testament to her being fun to work with and very co-operative.

(Black is Kerri's favourite colour and blue is her second favourite.)

If a biographic movie were to be done on your years in Europe, which well known star/actress would you like to play your part and why her?
Hmmm...maybe Jennifer Hudson. Granted, she is way taller than I am, but seeing her in movies and interviews, I feel like she could carry across the essence of what that experience was like and who I was in the midst of it all. I respect her acting chops and how effortless and bubbly she seems.

What genre do you think would be best suited for that movie?
Drama/Comedy. There were definitely a lot of laughs and some very dramatic and strange moments lol.

Speaking of genre, which genre do you watch/listen to the most:
Movies at home - Comedies. At home I love to unwind and just get lost in crazy laughter. Laughter is a huge part of my life.
Movies at the theatre - Action movies and other dramatic genres are a must at the movie theatre. The surround sound and whole atmosphere is just not something you can get outside of a theatre atmosphere. Maybe I'll have a home cinema some time in the future so I can experience that at home too.
Sitcoms - Right now, I'm really into Big Bang Theory and Modern Family.
Animated shows - Not sure what my favourite genre is here, but I'll watch just about any animated show lol
Music outside of your own - I listen to a lot of Soul, Jazz & R&B music outside the music I do on my own. I could safely say that these are my favourite genres. I listen to a bit of acoustic, & indie folk as well. I like to research incredible artistes & musicians who may not be very well known as yet.
Fictional Novels - I'm gonna do the cliche thing that I like reading just about everything lol, but my favourite genre is probably Historical Fiction.

Hunk Pick:

Singer/Deejay - Matthew Schuler
Actor/Model - Do I have to pick just one? This sucks lol. Right now, I'd have to say Idris Alba *faints*

Music video story you absolutely loved:

I have three (3): Michael Jackson's Thriller, Bad and Smooth Criminal. When I saw those for the first time I was like "sir, you are King".

On to food...

Are you allergic to any food (break out in hives, immediate breathing difficulties, anaphylactic shock etc)?
Shell fish. This wasn't always the case, but somehow I developed this. Shellfish wasn't my favourite anyway so no harm there.

Do you have any food sensitivities or intolerance?

Cheese (dairy overall) and wheat

Breath freshener: Gum or Mint
Hmmm...I usually go for mint because gum can give you gas (sorry, lol), but gum has it's purpose. Funnily, I can't chew gum for too long either, and I have to chew it in small pieces or else my jaw will start to hurt.

Warm beverage: Coffee or Tea

I am a coffee girl at heart (and normally in practice), however i have had to stop drinking coffee and some teas as a result of singing. So, I am a herbal tea girl right now. And I drink my teas with a little honey or black. I try to stay away from sugar in my drinks of any kind.

I can eat it everyday

This Vegetable: Broccoli
This Fruit: Otaheiti Apple

What is your favourite dish (without wheat of course)

Breakfast: Ackee & Saltfish with Callaloo and Breadfruit is my favourite, but I am not always a breakfast person if that makes sense. So, I would normally try to keep it light. When I can't have my favourite breakfast, I'll have fruits, herbal tea and the like.
Lunch: I am a chicken girl, so anything with chicken! *twirls*. I love fried chicken, but I don't get to have it often. I love sweet & sour chicken when its done very well. And curry anything works fine. I use non-wheat flour.
Dinner: As it stands, lunch is my heaviest meal. So dinner may be just about anything that will not make me feel too bloated but is filling enough to keep me from late night snacking *hangs head in shame*
Snack: I love banana chips, I can't go wrong with that. I prefer crunchy to sweet, unless its chocolate!

Name a food item you don't enjoy eating.

Carrots!!!! I hate them. I love juicing them, but they are terrible for eating. The worst...don't argue with me lol

Personal Preference to do: stove top cooking or baking.

Definitely stove top. Out of sight, out of mind. If i put something in the oven, it is all over. Except chicken!...Did I say that I was a chicken girl. I swear I man could propose to me with chicken. Outside of Fish, it is the only meat I genuinely like. I don't like meat otherwise. I will eat other meats if that's all there is available, but otherwise give meeee chiiiccckkkkeeeennnnn! :D

On to style...

Nail polish or bare?
Bare! I am way too inconsistent to wear polish. It gets chipped too easily and is just a grand waste of time for me. I try sometimes though especially for work. But for everyday living, I just want to know my fingers work lol. I do get a regular pedicure and polish though. Toes are different lol.

Whose award show wardrobe do you want to raid?

Angelina Jolie
Nicki Minaj
Jennifer Lawrence
Ariana Grande
Lupita Nyong'o
Other:
Lupita Nyong'o is everything right now! What a gorgeous woman and she is just on point! *sighs* #WhenIGrowUp lol

Lower body clothing of choice:

Jeans pants
Skirt
Daisy Dukes
Leggings
Other:
I am mostly in jeans. I like leggings, and short skirts too. Short shorts are perfect for a day at the beach.

If only one, mascara or lip gloss?

Lip gloss...far more functional. Mascara can look hot though lol. But yeah, definitely lip gloss.

About Personality/Preferences...

Homebody or social butterfly?
I am more of a social butterfly because I love being around people. However, I am still kind of a homebody too because I do like to "center" myself with time alone in my own space.I pray alot for example... *sigh* maybe I am confused lol. When i'm not out and about though, I like to have some down time at home relaxing, or at a café (Susie's is my favourite) or a sports bar (I know, this is still out and about lol).

What bad habit do you have and fully embrace?

I can be very picky.

Pet peeve?

I have many, but I spend a lot of time on my phone these days texting, and so typos are a part of that whole experience. However, consistent and bad spelling really aggravates me, like am I supposed to understand what you are saying? And I am not referring to so called ebonics either...we all use those, and I am aware of the dreadful autocorrect. I am referring to persons who literally do not know how a basic word is spelt and instead just consistently superimpose their own brand of spelling. Lol...I prefer to call those persons lol.

Stress outlet?

Physical exercise that I can do alone. I think stationery bikes and treadmills are perfect. I also like some basic yoga practices.

Pet of choice

Cat
Dog
Bird
Turtle
Other:
Dogs!

You lived in France for a while, what do you often miss from there?

The food, the culture and the nightlife. I definitely miss "the scene." It's very vibrant and inviting without feeling like your personal space is being invaded. I loved every moment of being out and about. It definitely kept me from going crazy with homesickness lol.

Men/relationships: what are your five non-negotiables?

Any guy I am dating should
1. Have a great sense of humour because I am a roar *pats self on back*,
2. Be polite and chivalrous, I am definitely old fashioned in that regard.
3. Have an active faith in God.
4. Needs to be a giant (6ft tall or more) so that my children have a stab at normal height ...hahahahaha
5. Be good/successful at business, finances and overall money management and well cultured/open minded as a result of varying experiences. He's probably well traveled too.
...Did you see how I packed everything into that last one? Lol...I think I have about 7 non-negotiables lol :)

When men try to approach you/flirt what action is a big turn off for you?

Pickup lines and putting on airs. A polite introduction is enough to get me to speak to (or not speak to) guys.

Destination wedding or at home/location?

Home/location

Many non-Jamaican couples who plan to get married or renew their vows in Jamaica often do it in one of beautiful resort areas and often this is the first suggestion they get. For the tourist who wants to do their ceremony on the "business side of the island" Kingston and St. Andrew - (home to approximately 24.6% of Jamaican residents), what are some locations you would suggest trying?

For a church, the University Chapel is a great option. And there are several gardens by the chapel and Senior Common Room for taking pictures or even a reception, depending on the details of the wedding. The Terra Nova hotel, by the pool, is also great for receptions. The Pegasus Hotel is great for a non-church ceremony & reception combination. Saves your guest the travel from one location to the next while you go and take pictures with the wedding party.
